Malice: An Old Pal and A New Pal

One of the fabulous things about Malice Domestic is that it is a great opportunity to revisit old pals and meet new pals. This year I attended an Author Alley presentation by my old pal Cathy Wiley, author of the Cassandra Ellis mystery series. As always, Cathy was charming and witty and her presentation was great fun.

In the lobby while I was searching for my agent, the ever fantastic Kim Lionetti, a very nice young woman asked who I was meeting. When I responded, it turned out she, too, was looking for Kim. So we wandered around together until we found her. The nice young lady’s name is Barbara Early, but you will come to know her better as Beverly Allen, author of a new cozy series, the Bridal Bouquet mysteries. Book one will be on the shelves next year.

Now here is the really cool part. When I was reading Barbara’s blog, she was talking about the books she read in preparation for Bouchercon Cleveland. (We should all be so well prepared.) And on her list of authors whose work she enjoyed I found this:

Cathy Wiley. Every now and then I like to look through the bargains on Kindle, which is where I found Cathy Wiley’s first novel. Usually, I download samples and don’t end up finishing them. Kudos to Cathy for hooking me and keeping me until the end. What mystery writer wouldn’t like a sleuth who is also a writer?”

So I ask you, how can you not like a new pal, who is already an admirer of an old pal? Ain’t life in the mystery community just grand?
