Each year, Otto Penzler, along with a guest editor puts together a collection of the Best American Mystery Stories published in the previous year. This year’s guest editor is Lisa Scottoline, and the book will be officially released tomorrow, October 8th.
At the stroke of midnight last night, I got the best news ever. A good friend sent me an email to let me know that my story “Jake Says Hello” is listed in the back of the Best American Mystery Stories under Other Distinguished Stories 2012. Want proof? Just look at the pictures she was kind enough to send.
And who is this terrific friend who was busy taking pictures and emailing me when she could be catching up on her sleep? It’s none other than the fabulous Leigh Perry, author of the recently released A Skeleton in the Family. You can read my Criminal Element review of this adorable cozy right here. Leigh Perry is the alter ego of long time writer Toni L. P. Kelner, who is writing under her middle names (you did wonder what the L. P. stood for, right?) to introduce us all to Sid the Skeleton who is the best friend an adjunct professor and amateur sleuth could have.
So today is celebration day! And what better way to celebrate? This evening at the central branch of the Queens Public Library I am going to participate with Woman of Mystery Triss Stein and three other Mystery Writers of America members on a panel entitled “How I Became a Mystery Writer.” Triss or I will let you know how it goes.
Terrie
