Laura asked what we are doing in 2013. Well I consider writing to be my real job but I have several part time gigs. One is hanging out with any or all grandkids and another is agitating whatever level of government annoys me most. The 112th Congress drove me crazy with their “let’s not actually DO anything” attitude, but hope springs eternal and so, to welcome the 113th Congress to session, I sent out my first email blast and called my brand new Congress Member’s office at 9 AM yesterday morning.
I have decided to join One Million Moms 4 Gun Control, a group formed immediately following Shady Hook and which has as its mission RESPONSIBLE gun regulations. We are not trying to overturn the Second Amendment, just make the regulations reasonable. You don’t have to be a mom to join, so feel free to look at the website.
Anyway, our first official job was to write the slogan: MOMS DEMAND ACTION, with a heart and 1MM4GC.org in high traffic places, or on your front walk, or wherever you think appropriate. It was a one day project that became so successful, the organization decided to continue for the entire month of January to bring attention to the cause.
Yesterday, as pictured above, I did high traffic bus stops. Today I did the sidewalk in front of my doctor’s office and the road in front of the supermarket. I keep my chalk in my pocket at all times, so if you invite me to your house, frisk me first and confiscate my chalk or I can’t be held accountable.
This isn’t meant to be a political post. Laura asked what I was doing in 2013. My answer is: writing several short stories and a novel; having as much fun as I can with people aged 10 and under; and oh yeah, beating the 113th Congress into paying attention to the world outside their petty squabbles.
